01. Is there a charge for East Berkshire Junior Citizen?

We do not charge schools to attend Junior Citizen and transport is provided free of charge where required this year (2008). However if a place is accepted and your school does not attend or cancels on or after 4th April 2008 we may seek to recover any costs incurred (for example, coach cancellation fees).

02. Can I change the place we have booked?

If we can swap your place with another school then we will try to accommodate your request to move as much as possible. However, the scheme is fully booked with a waiting list so we cannot easily move your school to a new date/time.

03. Who will provide our transport?

Windsorian Coaches will be providing transport – their coaches may be marked as Windorian or Ashford Luxury Coaches.

04. Who can I contact during the event?

Our staff will be out at this event so you will need to contact us via mobile phone: 07775 767 462 or 07876 698 248

05. I have forgotten when we are due to attend, how can I find out?

The timetable can be found by using the Dates link on the menu.

06. Some of our students have special needs; do you need to know about this in advance?

We ask you to inform us if any of your pupils have learning difficulties, behavioural/medical problems or do not speak/understand English well so that we can be aware of their needs.

07. We are attending an afternoon session; can we arrive early and have lunch there?

We have limited facilities for students to eat lunch. If you would like to come early please, let us know at least 3 weeks in advance so we can change the time of your coach pick-up and arrange tables/chairs etc. Lunch is not provided for students or staff.

08. Are staff CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked?

Any Junior Citizen staff with direct contact with children will be CRB Checked by their employer/organisation.

09. Who is responsible for our student’s behaviour?

We ask that the accompanying adult(s) remain in control of behaviour at the event. Many of our staff are experienced at dealing with children and young people and managing behaviour but you know your students best. Please ensure that you remain with your group at all times unless you are asked to leave them under our supervision or in case of emergency.

10. Who organises East Berkshire Junior Citizen?

East Berkshire Junior Citizen is organised and funded by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. We receive additional funding from some local authorities and partner organisations.

11. What should I tell pupils about the event and what they will be doing?

Try not to tell your students too much in advance - as some Education Stations will require them to react naturally to gain the full benefit of the experience. If they are forewarned of certain stations/activities then they may lose out.

12. Is the event indoors or outdoors?

Most of the event will take place indoors, but on occasion the children will be outside for short periods. It is worthwhile bearing in mind weather conditions – for example bringing raincoats or sun hats as appropriate.

13. Will there be a break / refreshments?

There is no break or refreshment available at the venue. We recommend that your students bring a drink with them, especially if the weather is hot.

14. Where is the venue?

The venue is the Thames Valley Community and Conference Centre, The Green, Chalvey, Slough, Berkshire, SL1 2SP
